Description: To comply with federally mandated interoperability requirements, the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department must replace all of its radio system components to ensure coordinated and effective information sharing with all public safety agencies such as fire and rescue, emergency medical services and law enforcement at all government levels (i.e. local, state and federal). At the last City Council meeting on March 17, 2008, the Assistance to Firefighters grant application for $250,000 to upgrade the communication equipment was approved for submittal without a match requirement. After further review of the guidelines, it was discovered that a 10% match is required. Chief Button will be requesting $25,000 in the FY09 budget which would provide the 10% match. It was further reported that Chief Button recommends a joint City/Volunteer application with the City providing the 10% match. The application due date is April 4, 2008. If City Council does not approve the application, it can be withdrawn. The Information Systems Department has been tasked with establishing a plan to bring City communication systems from analog to digital to meet a January 2013 deadline and this funding would assist the City in meeting that requirement.
